PeptiDream said on 5 November 2026 that MSD has begun a Phase 1 clinical trial of a peptide development candidate created with PeptiDream's PDPS (Peptide Discovery Platform System) technology. The start of the trial triggers a milestone fee to the Tokyo-listed company, which it expects to record as revenue in the fourth quarter of the year ending December 2026.
What the trial tests
The study is in healthy volunteers and is meant to test safety, tolerability and pharmacokinetics. PeptiDream said the compound is being developed with the aim of treating inflammatory diseases. The target is not disclosed.
MSD is the name Merck & Co., Inc., of Rahway, New Jersey, uses outside the United States and Canada, according to the release.
The money
The fee is owed under the PDPS licence agreement the two companies signed in 2018. The amount is confidential under the contract with MSD, so the release gives no figure. PeptiDream said it will receive the fee and expects to book it as revenue in the fourth quarter. An expectation of accounting treatment is not the same as cash received.
The company said the milestone was already built into the full-year forecast it announced on 16 February 2026, and the forecast is unchanged. It said it would disclose promptly if that changes.
Early-stage caveat
Phase 1 initiation says nothing yet about whether the compound is safe or effective, and it is far from approval. PeptiDream's president and CEO called the start of the trial evidence of MSD's peptide drug discovery and development strength and said the start should strengthen the partnership between the two companies.
