Tokio Marine Holdings spent ¥68.3bn buying back its own shares in September, according to its monthly share repurchase status report for the period 1 to 30 September, submitted on 13 October to the Kanto Local Finance Bureau. That takes the programme approved by the board on 20 May to 34.17% of its ¥200bn ceiling by value.

The report also records that the earlier programme, approved on 23 March, ran to its yen limit. It covered up to 48,207,200 shares and ¥287.4bn over an acquisition period from 1 April to 18 September. Cumulative purchases reached 38,625,800 shares and ¥287.4bn, which the report shows as 100.00% of the yen amount and 80.12% of the share count. No shares were bought under that programme in September.

The May programme: pace and ceiling

The second programme allows up to 130,000,000 shares and ¥200bn, with purchases running from 21 May to 23 December 2026. The report lists 15 buying days in September, from 2 to 25 September. Daily volumes stepped down from 585,000 shares in early September to 564,200 and then 564,700 shares, at daily outlays of roughly ¥4.4bn to ¥4.7bn. Total September purchases were 8,569,500 shares for ¥68,340,475,300. The report's cumulative figure for the programme equals the September total.

The two progress gauges diverge. Against the share-count limit the programme stands at 6.59%, against the yen limit at 34.17%. The report states the share figures before the stock split described below.

The 15-for-1 split

Tokio Marine split its common stock 15 for 1 with effect from 1 October 2026. All share counts in the report are stated on a pre-split basis. From that date, the report says, the total number of shares the May programme may acquire changed from 130,000,000 to 1,950,000,000. The yen ceiling of ¥200bn is unchanged in the report's table.

Treasury stock

At 30 September the company had 1,934,000,000 shares in issue and held 52,908,635 as treasury stock, again pre-split. The holding includes shares acquired through odd-lot repurchase requests. The only disposal in the month was 50 shares sold for ¥389,700 on 17 September in response to odd-lot sale requests. There were no cancellations and no transfers tied to mergers, share exchanges or company splits.

The May programme's acquisition period runs to 23 December 2026. The report gives the pace and the remaining headroom in yen and shares, but no schedule for the remaining purchases.
