SEKI CO.,LTD. (TSE Standard: 7857) will build a second manufacturing plant, the Toon Factory (provisional name), in Toon City, Ehime Prefecture, to expand capacity in its water-based flexographic printing and processing business. The board approved the project on September 17, 2026, with a planned investment of about ¥4.3bn, funded through company cash and bank borrowings.
The new building is a two-story steel-frame structure with 4,453.08 square meters of floor space, sited on a 12,089.53 square meter plot the company already owns. Equipment includes a water-based flexo printing press, processing equipment, an automated rack warehouse and logistics equipment, alongside a renovation of the existing SEKI BLUE FACTORY line. The plant will make flexible packaging such as food pouches and beverage labels.
Construction is due to start in February 2027, with the building finished by February 2028 and operations beginning in April 2028. SEKI says the project will have only a minor effect on consolidated results for the year ending March 2027, given the plant will not be running yet.
The company frames the investment as a continuation of a shift that began in 2017, when it entered water-based flexo printing as its main commercial-printing market contracted. SEKI points to a capital and business alliance signed with the Fuji Seal Group in March 2024 as the commercial backdrop, saying the two intend to grow the wrap-around label market together. The company describes the new capacity as necessary to meet rising demand for eco-friendly packaging, though that demand read is the company's own characterization rather than independently verified market data.
