NEDO opens extra call for quantum-computer components and materials research

Japan's NEDO is taking applications until 16 November for an additional round of quantum-computer R&D funding, this one aimed at the components and materials layer rather than whole machines.

The New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), a national research and development agency, has opened an additional call for researchers to carry out work under its Post-5G information and communication system infrastructure programme. The call is for the strand on accelerating development and demonstration of next-generation quantum computers to solve social issues, and its listing is labelled g12-2, components and materials.

Dates and who can apply

Applications opened on 14 October 2026 and run to 16 November 2026, Japan time. NEDO is seeking implementers "broadly from the general public" and tells anyone wanting to take on the contracted work to check its website and apply there.

The listing is for an additional round of a solicitation, not a new programme, and it targets the supply side of quantum hardware: the parts and materials that go into the machines.
