JDI Completes Sale of Idle Tottori Plant Five Weeks Early, Expects ¥500mn Gain

Japan Display finished handing over its shuttered Tottori factory more than a month ahead of schedule and expects to book a roughly ¥500mn gain in the half-year results to September 2026, while moving its automotive-display R&D staff to a new local office a month later.

Japan Display Inc. (JDI) said on August 24 that it has completed the handover of its shuttered Tottori plant, more than five weeks ahead of the September 30, 2026 date it had originally set. The land, buildings and ancillary facilities in Tottori city changed hands the same day the disclosure went out.

The plant stopped making LCD panels in March 2025 and has sat idle since. JDI said the sale is part of a broader push to bring its asset base in line with a shrunken display business and to sharpen its return on capital.

The buyer is a Tottori-based company whose business spans real estate leasing and cement wholesaling, with ¥20mn in capital. JDI said it has no capital, personnel, business or related-party ties to the buyer. The sale price is not being disclosed at the buyer's request, though JDI said the price reflects market value.

JDI expects to book an estimated ¥500mn gain on the fixed-asset sale as extraordinary income in the half-year results to September 2026, the second quarter of the fiscal year ending March 2027. The figure is a company estimate, not yet reflected in reported earnings, and covers sale proceeds net of book value and estimated transaction costs.

The plant's automotive-display development and design staff are not leaving Tottori. JDI plans to move that work to a new Tottori Office nearby, with the relocation set for September 24, 2026, a month after the factory itself already changed hands.
