The Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) has signed a business cooperation agreement with a regional bank to support overseas projects run by mid-sized and smaller Japanese companies. JBIC announced it on 6 October 2026.
What JBIC will provide
Under the agreement, JBIC will give the regional bank local monitoring information on overseas projects, using its network of 19 overseas representative offices. The information covers projects the two banks finance together as co-lenders.
The aim is to help the regional bank expand abroad. JBIC said the bank intends to widen financial support for overseas businesses of mid-sized and smaller companies located mainly in Hyogo Prefecture.
Part of a 2024 framework
The agreement is signed under JBIC's framework for supporting regional financial institutions' overseas business monitoring, which JBIC created and launched in November 2024. The release points readers to a notice dated 29 November 2024 for details of the framework.
JBIC described the move as part of its role as a public financial institution: working with regional lenders to support the overseas expansion of mid-sized and smaller companies and to maintain and improve the international competitiveness of Japanese industry.
The release does not give a loan volume, the number of projects covered or the length of the agreement.
