JBIC Guarantees $6.5mn Loan for Rubycon's Indonesian Capacitor Plant

Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) has agreed to guarantee a $6.5mn cross-border loan that a regional Japanese bank is extending to PT RUBYCON INDONESIA (RBI), the Indonesian production arm of Nagano-based capacitor maker Rubycon. The guarantee agreement, signed September 17, covers the loan's full guaranteed principal of 6,500 thousand US dollars.

The funds back RBI's ongoing electronic-components manufacturing and sales operation on Batam Island, an Indonesian industrial zone across the strait from Singapore. Rubycon set up RBI there in 1994, mainly to supply Japanese electronics makers, and JBIC says the new financing supports further expansion of that production base.

Rubycon is not a household name outside the components industry, but it has made capacitors and related electronic parts since 1952. The company runs production from equipment and raw materials through to finished parts under one roof. JBIC classifies Rubycon as a mid-sized manufacturer.
