The Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) has signed a loan agreement of up to about ¥4.2bn (JBIC's portion) with Banco Komatsu do Brasil S.A., the Brazilian unit of Komatsu. The agreement was signed on the 15th, according to a release dated 28 October 2026.
A co-financing with Mizuho
The loan is co-financed with Banco Mizuho do Brasil S.A., which sits under Mizuho Bank. Total co-financing is about ¥7.1bn. The money is earmarked for the sales finance business that Banco Komatsu do Brasil runs for Komatsu-brand construction and forestry machinery in Brazil.
Why Brazil
JBIC describes Brazil as the largest construction machinery market in Latin America, accounting for more than half of regional demand. Komatsu has its only Latin American construction machinery plant there, according to the release. JBIC adds that Komatsu seeks to differentiate itself from competitors by offering sales finance and after-sales service alongside the machines.
JBIC calls sales finance essential to expanding Komatsu's overseas machinery sales. It says the loan supports the maintenance and improvement of Japanese industry's international competitiveness. Those are JBIC's own characterizations.
Repeat borrower
The release says this follows JBIC's earlier loan to the same company, announced in a press release dated 24 September 2024. The release gives no tenor or interest rate.
