Matsui Securities has confirmed that it is in talks with Japan Post Bank about an alliance that includes a possible investment in Matsui. Both companies say nothing has been decided.

What each company said

Both companies were responding to a report on Nikkei's website on 28 October that Japan Post Bank is considering investing in Matsui Securities. Each said the report was not based on its own announcement.

Matsui went further. Its president said in the disclosure that the company is considering an alliance with Japan Post Bank, including discussions about the bank investing in Matsui, but that nothing has been decided at this point.

Japan Post Bank's wording was broader. It said it is considering various options under the consulting business strategy in its medium-term plan, including tie-ups with securities companies such as Matsui Securities, and that it has decided nothing.

What is missing

Neither company gives a stake size, a price or a timetable. Matsui's statement does not say what form an investment would take.

Both companies said they will announce promptly any matter that requires disclosure.
