DISCO's preliminary first-half sales beat its own forecast as quarterly shipments hit a record

DISCO's preliminary non-consolidated first-half sales of ¥213.6bn reached 106.2% of its forecast, and July to September shipments of ¥123.9bn set a quarterly record that the company links mainly to generative AI demand.

DISCO's non-consolidated sales for the first half of the year to March 2027 came in at ¥213.6bn, or 106.2% of the ¥201.1bn the company last forecast, according to a preliminary flash disclosure dated October 6. The chipmaking-equipment supplier also reported shipments of ¥123.9bn for the July to September quarter, the highest in its history for a single quarter.

Sales and shipments are different measures

Second-quarter sales were ¥118.5bn, up 38.9% from a year earlier and 24.7% from the first quarter. First-quarter sales were ¥95.0bn, up 26.0% on the year but 9.4% below the preceding quarter. First-half sales rose 32.8% year on year.

Shipments rose faster. The July to September figure was up 60.0% on the year and 6.4% on the April to June quarter, which itself was ¥116.5bn. First-half shipments totalled ¥240.5bn, up 41.1%.

Shipments¥116.5bn (+25.3%)¥123.9bn (+60.0%)¥240.5bn (+41.1%)

DISCO explains why it publishes both. It books sales of precision processing equipment and other machinery when the customer accepts the product, so reported sales tend to diverge from market movements. The company therefore discloses shipments, which it says track the market more closely, as reference information. In the second quarter, shipments of ¥123.9bn exceeded sales of ¥118.5bn.

DISCO's explanation

DISCO attributes the record quarter to shipments of both precision processing equipment and precision processing tools running at a high level, centred on generative AI applications. That is the company's own account. The disclosure does not break shipments down by customer or product line, and one supplier's figures do not establish the direction of the wider semiconductor cycle.

What is preliminary

The numbers are non-consolidated, unaudited and compiled from information available on October 6. DISCO says the voluntary quarterly flash disclosure is meant to give investors real-time information, and that audit findings could make final results differ from the preliminary figures. The company plans to publish full second-quarter results on October 22.
