US investment adviser Capital Research and Management Company has cut its stake in Tokyo-listed Metaplanet Inc. (3350) to 9.76% of shares outstanding, down from 11.09% at its previous report, according to a change report filed with the Kanto Local Finance Bureau on September 15, 2026. The filing was triggered because the adviser's holding ratio fell by more than one percentage point, the threshold that forces a fresh large-shareholding disclosure under Japan's securities law.
As of September 8, 2026, the Los Angeles-based adviser held about 131.4 million Metaplanet shares and depositary receipts, against roughly 1.35 billion shares outstanding. The position includes 2,340,900 American depositary receipts, converted on a one-ADR-to-one-share basis, and 5,902,500 non-voting Class B shares.
The filing's 60-day trading log shows the fund buying heavily in mid-July, then reversing into a run of sales through early September:

Capital Research says the position is held for the pure investment of overseas client investment trusts, not for any activist purpose, and it was funded entirely with about ¥64.1bn of client money rather than borrowed cash. The filing identifies the adviser as an investment advisory firm founded on July 30, 1940, represented in the report by secretary Donald H. Rolfe.
The same disclosure updates two stock-lending contracts: 50,208,410 Metaplanet shares out on loan to JPMorgan Chase & Co. and 33,305,000 shares to Fidelity Agency Lending, a unit of National Financial Services LLC. A lending arrangement does not by itself indicate short-selling, but it puts a large share of the fund's Metaplanet position into counterparties' hands.
The filing covers only Capital Research's own position. It does not show who bought the shares the fund sold, and it says nothing about Metaplanet's business or share-price performance. The document is labeled change report No. 30, a reminder of how frequently large foreign holders have adjusted their reported stakes in this single Tokyo-listed name.
