Tokyo Electron has spent nearly all of its ¥150bn buyback budget on a third of the authorized shares

Tokyo Electron had bought ¥149.999bn of stock against a ¥150bn board ceiling by the end of September, yet only 2,443,900 of the 7.5mn authorized shares, and the purchase window runs to March 2027.

Two measuring gauges side by side, one filled nearly to its limit and one filled about a third of the way, beside stacks of blank share certificates and silicon wafers.

Tokyo Electron had spent essentially all of its ¥150bn share buyback budget by the end of September, while using only about a third of the shares the board authorized. Its monthly buyback status report shows cumulative purchases of 2,443,900 shares for ¥149.999bn.

The two limits

The board approved the program on 29 May 2026, with a purchase window of 1 June 2026 to 31 March 2027. It set a ceiling of 7,500,000 shares and ¥150bn.

The report puts progress at 32.59% of the share limit and 100.00% of the value limit. The value figure is rounded: cumulative spending of ¥149.999bn sits just under the ¥150bn ceiling, while the share count has plenty of room left. The company reported no purchases during September itself.

The report is the company's statutory monthly status filing for the period from 1 to 30 September, submitted on 13 October 2026. It does not say whether the board regards the program as finished, whether it plans to raise the value limit, or whether a new authorization is coming. The purchase window formally stays open until March 2027.

Treasury shares and option exercises

Tokyo Electron's treasury holdings were 14,065,271 shares at 30 September, against 468,032,733 shares issued. The holdings figure includes shares bought from holders of fewer than one trading unit. It excludes shares held by the executive-compensation BIP trust and the ESOP share-grant trust.

The report lists disposals of 86,800 treasury shares in September, all to meet stock option exercises. These were spread over nine dates between 2 and 18 September, the largest being 64,000 shares on 17 September. The report records no cancellations, no shares issued to subscribers and no transfers tied to mergers or share exchanges.

What to watch

The purchase window for the program runs until 31 March 2027, and the company's later monthly status reports will show whether any further purchases are recorded.
