Nonresident investors were net buyers of Japanese securities in every major category in the week of October 25 to 31, according to the Ministry of Finance's weekly international transactions in securities release dated November 6, 2026. Their total net acquisition was ¥3.49tn. In the previous week, October 18 to 24, the equivalent figure was ¥62.0bn, and the ministry marks those figures as revised.
Inward flows: equities, bonds and short-term paper
Nonresidents bought a net ¥1.13tn of Japanese equities and investment fund shares, on gross purchases of ¥44.38tn against gross sales of ¥43.25tn. Net purchases of long-term debt securities were larger, at ¥1.48tn. Short-term debt added a net ¥874.7bn.
The short-term line has been volatile. In the week of October 11 to 17, nonresidents were net sellers of ¥2.24tn of short-term debt, and their total for that week was a net disposal of ¥849.8bn. The latest week reverses that sign.
Outward flows: residents keep buying foreign assets

The prior two weeks were mixed. Residents were net sellers in the week of October 4 to 10 (¥1.03tn) and in the week of October 11 to 17 (¥163.4bn), then net buyers of ¥442.9bn in the week of October 18 to 24.

How to read the numbers
The ministry builds the series from reports by designated major investors: banks, financial instruments firms, insurers, investment trust management companies and asset managers, among others, designated by the finance minister. It therefore covers reporting institutions, not every transaction. Positive figures denote net acquisition and negative figures net disposition, and totals may not add because of rounding. Figures marked with an asterisk have been revised, and the latest week carries no such marks. The release gives no breakdown of which investors were buying and no reason for the swing.
