Autobacs Seven's headline profit growth for the six months to September 30, 2026 comes from an accounting line, not from its stores. Net profit attributable to owners of the parent rose 99.6% to ¥6.99bn, but profit before tax fell 10.2% to ¥4.92bn and operating profit slipped 0.5% to ¥5.06bn, according to the company's half-year securities report.
The tax line
Sales rose 9.6% to ¥141.19bn. The report says net profit was lifted because the company booked an income-tax adjustment after deciding to transfer all shares in its subsidiary AUTOBACS FRANCE. The adjustment was a negative ¥4.31bn, which turned total income taxes into a ¥2.11bn credit rather than a charge. The report describes a decision to transfer, not a completed sale. Earlier Tokyo Brief coverage is linked for background.
The dealer purchase
The consumer segment, which includes car dealerships, grew sales 29.3% to ¥31.72bn and segment profit to ¥779mn. The report credits a new Audi dealership in Fukushima Prefecture, a wider BYD dealer network and stronger used-car and service income, so the growth is not all from acquisitions.
In July the group completed the purchase of a Yamanashi Prefecture operator of Audi, Volvo and BYD dealerships. A group subsidiary bought 100% for ¥1.75bn in cash. The deal closed on July 31, with a deemed acquisition date of July 1, so three months of its results sit in the half-year figures. Goodwill is ¥337mn, amortised over ten years, and advisory fees were ¥94mn. The report gives no separate sales or profit figure for the acquired dealer group.
Cash
Operating cash flow fell to ¥843mn from ¥5.54bn a year earlier. Tax payments were ¥4.55bn, and short-term borrowings rose by a net ¥9.27bn.
