Nippon Chemi-Con Corporation (TSE Prime: 6997) said on September 24 that Singapore's International Commercial Court has ordered its subsidiary, SINGAPORE CHEMI-CON (PTE) LTD. (SCC), to pay £92,726,123, about ¥19.37bn, to Dyson Manufacturing Sdn. Bhd.. The judgment was handed down September 18 local time and covers part of the damages Dyson had sought.
Dyson filed the suit in November 2024, arguing that defect rates rose in certain group products made from June 2022 onward and tracing the cause to components it bought from SCC. The court accepted some of SCC's arguments but still ordered payment on a portion of the damages Dyson claimed, a finding that is the court's own and distinct from Dyson's original allegations.
The £92.7mn figure is not the final bill. Nippon Chemi-Con said SCC's share of a separate, unresolved slice of Dyson's claim, worth £3,131,760, about ¥650mn, remains to be fixed, along with SCC's portion of Dyson's legal costs and any pre-judgment delay damages. None of those additions carries a number yet.
| Item | Amount | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Court-ordered payment | £92,726,123 (about ¥19.37bn) | Ordered by the court |
| Disputed claim, SCC's share pending | £3,131,760 (portion claimed, about ¥650mn) | Amount not yet determined |
| Dyson's attorney fees, SCC's share | Undisclosed | Amount not yet determined |
| Pre-judgment delay damages | Undisclosed | Existence and amount not yet determined |
SCC is weighing an appeal of the ruling, the company said, without stating that one has been filed.
Nippon Chemi-Con said it is still reviewing the special loss and earnings impact tied to the judgment and will disclose the figures once its review produces a clear outlook. For a Tokyo-listed electric-machinery maker, the case turns a two-year cross-border quality dispute into a concrete, if still partly unquantified, legal liability for its Singapore subsidiary.
