Liberaware wins Tokyo backing of up to ¥200mn for overseas push

Liberaware has been selected for Tokyo's second-round SusHi Tech Global growth programme, which offers up to ¥200mn and up to 18 months of support, while the drone maker says the effect on its results is still under review.

A small drone inspects a narrow industrial passage while a wireframe digital model of the space and linked network nodes appear alongside it.

Liberaware said on 28 October 2026 that it has been selected for the second round of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's SusHi Tech Global growth acceleration programme. The company, listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Growth market under code 218A, announced the selection in a timely disclosure.

What the programme offers

The programme targets start-ups expected to grow quickly through overseas expansion. Each selected company can receive up to ¥200mn in funding, plus tailored support on business strategy, fundraising, organisation and people, and building overseas networks.

Support is planned to run for up to 18 months from the date an agreement is signed. The tailored support centres on two axes: alliances with overseas companies and local government bodies, and help with financing. Where the programme's operator has networks and a track record in supporting Japanese companies abroad, it plans to add support through local bases.

The ¥200mn figure is a per-company ceiling set by the programme. Liberaware's disclosure does not say how much it will receive.

Liberaware's overseas pitch

Liberaware develops, makes and sells small drones for inspecting narrow indoor spaces. It also offers digital-twin solutions built on the images and video those drones collect, aimed at maintaining infrastructure facilities and equipment.

The company argues that ageing infrastructure, labour shortages and the need for safe work in hazardous environments are problems shared worldwide, so its technology should find wide use abroad. It says it intends to use the programme to refine its overseas strategy, build ties with local companies and strengthen sales and service. It aims to make overseas markets a medium- to long-term growth pillar.

Those are intentions. The disclosure names no overseas customer, partner, target market or contract.

Earnings effect still open

Liberaware says it is still assessing how the selection will affect consolidated results for the fiscal year ending July 2027, and that it will disclose anything material promptly.
