Applications are open for the 14th round of a Tokyo grant that pays part of the cost of machinery for small and mid-sized companies, and the project has to be in mass production. The programme, titled in English roughly as the equipment investment support project for ambitious business expansion, takes applications from 23 October to 24 November 2026.

What the grant pays for

The programme subsidises part of the cost of machinery and equipment that Tokyo small and mid-sized companies need either to raise the quality of their products and services or to expand production capacity. Its stated aim is to support those companies' medium- and long-term growth and the Tokyo economy.

The listing says the grant targets applications at the mass-production stage, not prototyping or development.

Rates, ceiling and timing

The subsidy rate runs from up to one-half to up to four-fifths of eligible costs, depending on the business category applied for. The maximum grant is ¥200mn. The listing points to a table behind a link for the category-by-category detail, which the jGrants entry does not reproduce.

The subsidy period starts on 1 April 2027 and can run to 30 September 2028 at the longest, a span of up to one and a half years. The reference date for eligibility is 1 October 2026.

Who can apply

As of 1 October 2026, applicants must be small and mid-sized businesses with a registered head office or branch in Tokyo that have operated in the city for at least two years. Individual applicants must have filed a business-opening notification in Tokyo by that date.

Companies that plan to install the subsidised equipment outside Tokyo must have their head office in the city.

Questions go to the equipment support section of a Tokyo public-interest foundation for small-business promotion, on 03-3251-7884.
