Gakken Holdings has confirmed that it started a bidding process aimed at selling its shares in a group company, but says it has decided nothing. The company, listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange's Prime market under code 9470, said so in a notice titled "Regarding certain media reports about the company", dated October 13, 2026.
What the company confirmed
The notice responds to an October 9 article that Mergermarket, a service for paying subscribers, distributed in English. The article said Gakken had begun a bidding process for the sale of its shares in the company. Gakken stressed that the report was not its own announcement.
It then confirmed the substance. The company said it is reviewing a restructuring of its business portfolio under its medium-term management plan, and that it is true it has started such a bidding process.
What remains open
Gakken said it is constantly weighing a range of strategic options, including how the process itself is handled, and that nothing has been decided at this point. The notice names no bidder and gives no price or valuation.
The company said it will announce promptly anything it is required to disclose in future. The notice lists the company's president as its representative and the head of the corporate strategy office as the contact.
