unbanked Resumes Gold Bullion Trading After Court Dismisses Ousted Director's Injunction

A dismissed director's court petition was enough to get unbanked's bank accounts frozen for nine business days; the Tokyo District Court's August 31 dismissal of her claim let the freeze lift and gold bullion trading resume on September 2.

Tokyo Stock Exchange Standard-listed unbanked inc. (code 8746) restarted its gold bullion sales and purchases business on September 2, 2026, after its main bank lifted a freeze on the company's accounts that had lasted nine business days.

The freeze traced back to a fight over who runs the company. Former representative director Hu Yan was removed from that post by a board resolution on July 17, 2026. She argued the resolution was either nonexistent or invalid and, on August 7, filed a petition with the Tokyo District Court seeking to suspend the duties of the current representative director, Kaneto Hirai. On August 19, Hu, acting through her lawyer, asked the company's main transaction bank to halt withdrawals, citing that pending court petition. The bank froze the accounts on its own judgment and told unbanked that lifting the freeze required a court ruling.

That ruling came on August 31, when the Tokyo District Court dismissed Hu's petition. unbanked says it then explained the outcome to the bank, which agreed to release the freeze effective September 2, the same day the company restarted its gold bullion business.

The company says the nine-business-day suspension's effect on earnings is still under review, and it has promised prompt disclosure if anything material turns up. The disclosure does not address the underlying validity of Hu's July 17 removal beyond noting the court's dismissal of her injunction request, so the governance dispute itself may not be fully resolved even though the operational freeze is.
