Sun* Inc. (TSE: 4053), the Tokyo-listed digital product studio, filed a request with the Kanto Local Finance Bureau on August 13 to push back the deadline for its half-year report covering January to June 2026, moving it from August 14 to September 14. The trigger is not a paperwork backlog. It is cash that should not have been unaccounted for.
During an online hearing with consolidated subsidiary Sun Asterisk Vietnam Co., Ltd., Sun*'s head of internal audit and a full-time member of its audit and supervisory committee flagged the possibility that cash existed outside the company's accounting books. A physical cash count then confirmed that the cash was actually there. That combination, cash outside the ledger but real in the drawer, is what prompted the company to open a wider investigation.
Sunsays it is still working through the facts and assessing the accounting, legal and tax implications, and it has not yet put a number on any impact. Its outside accounting auditor told the company that the discovery requires additional interim review procedures, and that completing the interim review of the half-year report by the original statutory deadline would be difficult. That is a scheduling and scope problem for the auditor, not a declaration that the review cannot be finished at all, and Sun has not disclosed how large the unrecorded cash balance is or over what period it accumulated.
The extension itself still needs approval. Sun* says it will disclose the outcome promptly once the Kanto Local Finance Bureau rules, and it will separately announce, once decided, when it plans to release its second-quarter earnings summary for the year ending December 2026. Until then, the open questions are the size of the discrepancy at the Vietnam unit, how long it existed before the hearing caught it, and whether the extra review turns up anything beyond the cash itself.
