Arata, the Tokyo Prime-listed wholesaler (code 2733), said on 20 October 2026 that a consolidated subsidiary has received an on-site inspection from the Japan Fair Trade Commission (JFTC). The inspection is on suspicion of a violation of the Antimonopoly Act, specifically resale price maintenance.

What the company said

In its notice, Arata said the inspection had been reported by some media outlets the same day. It said it and the subsidiary take the matter "solemnly" and will cooperate fully with the commission's inspection.

Resale price maintenance is, in general terms, a supplier restricting the prices at which its customers resell goods.

What is and is not established

An inspection on suspicion of a violation is not a finding of one. The notice describes the suspicion as the JFTC's and does not say what products or period are involved. It also gives no estimate of any financial impact on Arata.

The disclosure comes from the company itself, so the commission's own account of the case is not part of it.
