Two sources of the beat
Chugin Financial gave two drivers. After the Bank of Japan raised its policy rate, the group's banking subsidiary bought and sold securities to rebalance its portfolio, and the company expects ordinary revenues to come in well above the original forecast as a result. Separately, it expects higher domestic interest rates and the rebalancing to push fund-management income, meaning interest on loans and interest and dividends on securities, substantially above forecast.
The notice does not say how much of the increase comes from portfolio trading and how much from interest income. That split matters for how much of the new level can carry into later periods. The company also cautions that the figures rest on preliminary numbers and that actual results may differ.
Next step
Chugin Financial said it will announce its full-year outlook alongside second-quarter results on October 29, after weighing economic conditions and market trends.
