Muji suspends its online store as it tightens security after a possible customer-data leak

Ryohin Keikaku has halted Muji's web store and nearly all app functions to strengthen security, targets a restart within one to two days, and says stores are open and the earnings impact should be limited.

A smartphone with a blank storefront grid and a padlock in front of softly lit shelves of storage boxes.

Ryohin Keikaku, which runs the Muji chain, has taken its online store offline. In a disclosure dated November 6, 2026, the company said it suspended the store to put protection of customer information first and to strengthen security further.

What is switched off

The Muji web store has all services and functions halted. In the Muji app, everything stops except the barcode display for MUJI Members, the membership card.

Physical stores are unaffected: the company said Muji stores are operating as usual.

Timing and cost

Ryohin Keikaku said it plans to restart the online store within one to two days. That is the company's target, not a confirmed reopening. It expects the impact on results to be limited and said it will announce promptly anything that needs disclosure.

A leak that is still only possible

The notice is a follow-up to the company's November 4 disclosure titled "Possibility of customer information leak". The wording of that title is the company's own: the November 6 notice describes the suspension as a security measure and does not say that a leak has been confirmed. It gives no cause for the concern and no number of affected customers.
