Ariake Capital raises stake in Tokyo Kiraboshi Financial Group to 9%

Ariake Capital's stake in Tokyo Kiraboshi Financial Group climbed to 9.00% on client-funded market buying since July, and its filing reserves the right to press capital-policy or restructuring proposals, though none has been made so far.

Ariake Capital, a Tokyo investment manager, has raised its stake in Tokyo Kiraboshi Financial Group, Inc. (TSE: 7173) to 9.00% of shares outstanding, up from 7.97% in its previous disclosure. The change report, filed with the Kanto Local Finance Bureau on 14 September 2026, shows the firm holding 26,027,800 shares of the bank holding company's 289,189,176 shares outstanding as of 7 September.

The increase came through a run of market purchases between 10 July and 7 September, ranging from a few thousand shares on quiet days to 809,200 shares on 17 July and 478,300 shares on 3 September. Ariake funded the entire ¥39.85bn position with client money managed under a discretionary agreement with a master fund, with no borrowed funds involved.

Ariake describes its purpose as pure investment but reserves the option to hold what it calls constructive dialogue with management and to propose capital policy, corporate restructuring, or other management measures if it judges these would support the bank's medium- to long-term value. The filing states plainly that no important proposal has been made so far. The report was signed by the firm's representative director; Ariake Capital was established in February 2020 as an investment management firm.

Crossing 9% keeps Ariake below the 10% level that typically draws closer market attention to activist-leaning shareholders.
